As a member of the AIWC, you are also a member of the Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas. FAWCO is an international network of over 70 independent clubs with a combined membership of nearly 18,000 women in 35 countries worldwide. It serves as a support network for American women living and working abroad and is particularly active in concerns and issues of Americans overseas, education, environmental awareness, health, and human rights, specifically women’s and children’s rights.
FAWCO is a non-partisan, not-for-profit corporation. It is a recognized non-governmental organization (NGO) accredited by the UN, has special consultative status to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and is a member of CONGO, the Conference of NGOs. FAWCO is a member of the CONGO Committees on the Status of Women, the Special NGO Committee on Human Rights, and the Committee on HIV/AIDS.
The FAWCO Foundation is the philanthropic arm of FAWCO. As members of FAWCO, you have the opportunity to nominate charities in order to receive FAWCO Development Grants, and even apply for education awards for member and children of members. For 2017-2019 our club is supporting the FAWCO Target Project, Hope Beyond Displacement.
To maintain our positive relationship with FAWCO, the AIWC has a position on our General Board for a FAWCO representative. This position liaises with FAWCO to keep the AIWC up to date on FAWCO initiatives and other information. If you are interested in becoming more involved with FAWCO, please contact the AIWC office or our FAWCO Representative, Laureen Scharps, firstname.lastname@example.org.
